You might be used to seeing a similar face (or bald head!) between either Tim or Michael at Carter Avenue over the years, but we are always happy when we get to add a new one to the team.
With that said, we would like to introduce you all to Caleb, the newest member of Carter Ave’s team.
Caleb started with us at the end of July 2020. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Integrated Studio Arts from Iowa State University. His primary mediums are traditional printmaking and acrylic painting. You can view his work on his website – www.calebhenkelman-art.com. As an artist, Caleb described himself as “always being framing adjacent and very excited to learn the ins and outs of the framing industry”. Caleb has an excellent eye for design and is very detail-oriented.
Outside of work and art, Caleb lives with his fiance in Uptown. He also is very fond of music, playing both guitar and drums. Caleb also considers himself a coffee connoisseur. Having previously worked as a barista for multiple years, he has a fine appreciation for the perfectly brewed beverage.
Normally we would ask you to introduce yourself next time you are in, but Caleb is so wonderfully outgoing he will probably beat you to it!

That is exactly what happened to a recent customer. Mary brought in her wonderful watercolor that she purchased at the Edina Art Fair about 30 years ago. She has loved the art, but over time the framing had become very dated and distracting. After framing some other items with us, she finally decided it was this watercolor’s turn, and what a transformation!
Here is the original framing.

Here is the new finished framing.
Wow! What a transformation! The soft greenish-gray top mat blends to the background and allows the bright colors in the art to come forward. Look how much easier it is to see the flowers and the butterfly! Mary was thrilled to see new life in her art.
We are so glad to have worked with Mary and appreciate her willingness to share her framing experience with everyone.

We just acquired a copy of “Celebration”, one of John August Swanson’s sold out serigraphs, and now it is available for you to purchase!
“Celebration” started as an acrylic painting. It focused on the many different types of dance that brought joy to John. The scene is lit with candlelight and starlight, which is done to help make the people’s beautiful garments glow. Later, John converted the image into one of his prolific serigraphs (pictured above). As a serigraph, “Celebration” contains 50 different colors. For each color, John had to draw a separate stencil, which is then turned into a silkscreen. Each color is printed on top of one another to build up depth and create a rich chiaroscuro of darkness and light.

As we continue to work through the “social distancing” parameters, we have put together some options that can fulfill your framing needs while maintaining the safety and health of both you and us.
We are offering scheduled appointments for customers through Zoom video conferencing. This will allow you to see framing options just as you might at an in-person consultation.
DESIGNS PREVIOUSLY MADE
Any customer that worked on a design previously, and requested an order to be held, can drop off art to be completed in that design. Please contact us to verify your design is held in our system before dropping off art.
This might be for brave customers or customers who have worked with us previously. We will complete a design on your behalf, doing what we always do to make your items look the best they can!
Whether it is original art we have in stock or prints we can get from places like StudioEL, you can purchase art through us and never have to make a trip here! We can ship you the art or complete one of the no-contact framing options previously listed.
Gift certificates are available for any amount and can be mailed directly to you.
CURBSIDE DROP OFF/PICK UP AND HOME DELIVERY
Drop off and pick up from our parking lot can be done anytime during our regular store hours (10-5:30p weekdays and 10-4p Saturdays). Call us when you arrive and we will come out with mask and gloves on to receive your art.
Home pick up and delivery can be scheduled for a minimal fee (cost is subject to the distance from our store). We will pick up and deliver your art at your doorstep. Carter Ave staff will not enter customers’ homes at this time.
Carter Ave Frame Shop will begin to offer No-Contact Virtual Design Services starting Monday, April 27th.
No-Contact Virtual Designing is aimed to provide you with the same level of customer service you’ve come to know and love about Carter Ave Frame Shop while offering a safe alternative to an in-person design process.
VIRTUAL DESIGN CONSULTATIONS
These consultations will be completed utilizing Zoom Video Conferencing (a free downloadable program). To utilize this service, customers must have access to a smartphone, tablet, or computer with webcam capabilities. You must have an account set up to be able to participate in virtual design services.
SCHEDULING DESIGN CONSULTATIONS
Virtual Design Consultations will need to be scheduled. To schedule your appointment, please call us at 651-645-7862 or email (email@example.com) with requested appointment times. Appointment starting times will be offered between 8am-6pm on weekdays and 10a-3:30p on Saturdays. When a consultation is scheduled, you will receive an email with a link to the Zoom Video Conference for that time and date. All items to be framed/consulted on must be dropped off/picked up prior to the start of the consultation.
CURBSIDE DROP OFF/PICK UP
Drop off and pick up will be available from 10am-5:30pm on weekdays and 10am-3:30pm on Saturdays without scheduling in advance. Customers are to call the store when outside and we will come out to collect the items or deliver completed framing. Drop off and pick up can be completed outside of designated hours with previously scheduled appointments approved by Carter Ave staff.
We will offer home pick up and delivery options for a small fee. The cost will be determined by distance from our store location. You will be called when we are at the location of pick up. Staff will not enter the customers’ homes.
You are also welcome to use your preferred shipping or delivery service to send items to our store. Please inform us if you are doing this so we can watch for your package.

Carter Avenue Frame Shop is open from 10-5:30 on weekdays and 10-4p on Saturdays. During these regular store hours, you may stop by anytime that is convenient for you. We ask that all customers be respectful to staff and one another in regard to social distancing.
Mask Policy – Vaccinated individuals will be allowed to enter the building unmasked, but you are still welcome to wear your mask if they so choose. Unvaccinated individuals should continue to wear your mask for in-person service. All of Carter Avenue Frame Shop’s staff is fully vaccinated and will be working unmasked unless requested by customers to put a mask on during your interaction.
