Oil and Cold Wax Abstracts by Marjorie Moody Now Available

Oil and Cold Wax Abstracts by Marjorie Moody Now Available

This series of oil and cold wax abstract paintings were executed by working in layers, scraping through the surface, adding more paint and finding the imagery during the process. Marjorie works intuitively but with intention, playing with combining abstraction and natural spaces. Rather than depict a scene she strives to suggest and/or stir up a memory. Mystery and ambiguity are important elements of her paintings. Her work has been influenced by the Abstract Expressionists, Chinese landscape painting and Japanese woodblock prints.

These 22″x30″ original paintings are available for $1,200 at Carter Avenue Frame Shop.

Marjorie Moody was born in Long Beach, CA in 1950 and has lived in St. Paul, MN with her husband/photographer Michael Zaccardi since 1976. Marjorie received her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree, summa cum laude, from the University of Minnesota. She has had solo exhibitions nationally and internationally. Her work is in private collections throughout the U.S., Germany, Switzerland, France, Japan, Norway, Canada, and Italy. Besides painting her passions include travel, gardening, and playing the piano. Her main concerns while painting are color, mood, rhythm, and spontaneity. Music, nature, dreams, and the subconscious all play a part in the formation of her work.

Updated Website and Logo Coming Fall 2021

Updated Website and Logo Coming Fall 2021

Carter Avenue Frame Shop will be rolling out an updated website in the fall of 2021. Part of the process will be incorporating a new logo to represent our brand. Our current logo has been part of the history of Carter Avenue Frame Shop for over 25 years. Although we have appreciated the representation of our brand throughout that time, it has become apparent that now is the time to refresh our look.

Brian Geihl, of Dogfish Media, led the charge in the new design. After consultation of the desired new look, Brian provided us with multiples options and then fine tuned it to fit our needs.

Although we will be getting a new look, we will still be providing the same great design and service you have come to know and love.

Stay tuned this fall for the new rollout!

Carter Ave Adds to the Team

Carter Ave Adds to the Team

We are happy to share that Carter Avenue Frame Shop has another new face as part of our team. Kristen joined us in March of 2021.

She received her BA in Art History from Augsburg University. With experience from a few gallery spaces, Kristen enjoys working hands-on with art and collaborating with other art lovers. Framing has always been a field she wanted to directly explore and she’s excited to work at such a great shop with such a knowledgeable staff. She also loves learning about artists, techniques, and peoples’ latest passions.

Kristen lives in Powderhorn Park with her partner and two Norwegian Forest cats. She won’t turn down a conversation about plants, yoga, or brass instruments.

Kristen is eager to meet both you and your artwork soon!

Inktober by Caleb Henkelman

Inktober by Caleb Henkelman

Have you ever heard of Inktober? Jake Parker created Inktober in 2009 as a challenge to improve his inking skills and develop positive drawing habits. The concept was simple, create one ink drawing every day in October. Sharing his drawings through Instagram, Parker’s project quickly went viral and soon became a worldwide phenomenon. Every year, Parker chooses a one-word prompt for each day in October, and artists around the world create unique drawings to match his prompts.

In October of 2020, Carter Avenue Frame Shop’s very own Caleb Henkelman participated in the Inktober challenge as a back-to-basics artistic endeavor. He woke up early each day before work to complete a drawing from Parker’s 2020 prompt list. Working in shades of black and gray from his own photographs, Caleb pushed his artistic ability and reconnected with the fundamentals of drawing.

The 5″x7″ drawings are now available at Carter Avenue Frame Shop for $100 each. Stop by to get yours and chat with Caleb about his experience!

JUDiTH+ROLFE Create 3-D Masterpiece of Minneapolis Skyline

This 3-D image of the Minneapolis Skyline, made out of hand-cut paper, is a sight to behold! Carter Avenue Frame Shop fit the art with an acrylic box. Elizabeth Hoigaard Johnson, who commissioned the piece, was kind enough to showcase the finished product on display in her home.

Take a look below to see the processes of completing the art, fitting with an acrylic box, and the impressive finished product.

Many thanks to JUDiTH+ROLFE and Elizabeth Hoigaard Johnson for including us in the wonderful project and providing photos.

New Face at Carter Ave

New Face at Carter Ave

You might be used to seeing a similar face (or bald head!) between either Tim or Michael at Carter Avenue over the years, but we are always happy when we get to add a new one to the team.

With that said, we would like to introduce you all to Caleb, the newest member of Carter Ave’s team.

Caleb started with us at the end of July 2020. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Integrated Studio Arts from Iowa State University. His primary mediums are traditional printmaking and acrylic painting. You can view his work on his website – www.calebhenkelman-art.com. As an artist, Caleb described himself as “always being framing adjacent and very excited to learn the ins and outs of the framing industry”. Caleb has an excellent eye for design and is very detail-oriented.

Outside of work and art, Caleb lives with his fiance in Uptown. He also is very fond of music, playing both guitar and drums. Caleb also considers himself a coffee connoisseur. Having previously worked as a barista for multiple years, he has a fine appreciation for the perfectly brewed beverage.

Normally we would ask you to introduce yourself next time you are in, but Caleb is so wonderfully outgoing he will probably beat you to it!
