Carter Ave Frame Shop Designers

At Carter Avenue Frame Shop, we do it all. The people you work with designing framing packages are also the people that handle your artwork and complete all of the framing production. Take a look below to meet your designers!

Michael Smith

Michael grew up around Carter Ave. Frame Shop (his father Tim was the previous owner) and always assumed he would work at the frame shop someday.  He loves to work with his hands and has a great eye for color and design.

Mike attended the University of Minnesota Duluth where he studied criminology.  He worked briefly as a probation officer and then in various roles supporting individuals with disabilities.  In 2016, Mike decided to fulfill his destiny and came to Carter Ave. Frame Shop to work as a full-time employee.  The following year he bought into the business, partnering with his father, Tim.  In 2019, Mike completed the purchase of Carter Ave. Frame Shop to become the sole owner.

Mike enjoys playing basketball and volleyball, both pickup and in leagues.  He loves to travel, especially hiking, backpacking, and snowboarding in the mountains of Montana and Colorado.  Mike and his wife (Rachael) live in Saint Anthony Park with their two kids (Josephine and Archer) and two dogs (Bailey and Penny).

Devin Quast

Devin joined the team in February of 2022. He attended both North Dakota State University and Dunwoody College of Technology. He spent time studying architecture, fine art, and design then and went on to earn a degree in Graphic Design and Print Production. His main mediums are photography, printmaking, and mixed media.

Outside of work, Devin’s other interests include fashion, video games, crafts such as bookmaking and collaging, and the outdoors. He grew up living near Lake Superior and then later The Marine on St. Croix River so spending time on the water has been very important to him.

Caleb Henkelman

Caleb joined the Carter Ave team in July of 2020 after studying Integrated Studio Arts at Iowa State University. In school he focused on traditional printmaking techniques and painting. He continues to practice in those mediums today. He loves to learn more about customer’s framing projects and share discussions to create a cohesive design that highlights their individual piece.

He lives in Whittier with his wife (Ashia), and in his free time Caleb enjoys listening to music, playing guitar and drums. After years of work as a barista, Caleb also enjoys a perfectly brewed cup and deep dives into coffee theory.
